Ok, so I know this is a BIG call, but there's one thing I ALWAYS stand by when it comes to building business confidence.
It has COMPLETELY changed me from being anxious that people are judging me, to knowing that I am just fine in who I am.
And that advice is this::
“This isn’t a leap forward, it’s a trust fall into yourself.”
Why Business Confidence Matters More Than Perfection
When you're starting a social media business (or any business, really), there's this myth that everything needs to be perfect before you begin. You need thousands of followers. You need the perfect brand. You need to know everything.
That's rubbish.
There is no perfect business. But I trust myself and my skills. I know that I will get it done. And the moment we learn to embrace dealing with things day-by-day is the moment everything becomes better!
My Journey: Clients Before Followers
At first, I was so caught up in going the traditional route of growing followers first before selling. But then I realised that the amount of followers shouldn't have to dictate how many clients I get to help.
And in fact, I had clients way before I nurtured my own social media account.
Since I have trust in my skills, my lovely friends can see that too. So they entrusted me with their businesses' social media presence which I still handle today.
This is the power of trusting yourself first. When you genuinely believe in what you can deliver, others will too. REGARDLESS of your follower count.
Overcoming Self-Doubt in Business
Sometimes, the only thing stopping us is ourselves.
Imposter syndrome. Self-doubt. Waiting for the "right time". I've been there. Every entrepreneur has.
But here's what I've learnt: the right time is when you decide it is. The confidence comes from doing the work, not before it.
So this is your reminder that we shouldn't be afraid to do 'a trust fall into ourselves'.
How to Build Business Confidence (5 Practical Steps)
Building genuine business confidence isn't about faking it till you make it. It's about creating a foundation of self-trust that grows stronger with every decision you make.
✔ Giving ourselves grace and allowance for mistakes. Mistakes are opportunities to learn.
Mistakes are opportunities to learn. Every single one. That campaign that didn't perform? You've just learnt what doesn't resonate with your audience. The client call that went sideways? You now know how to handle that situation better next time.
Stop punishing yourself for not being perfect. Instead, celebrate the lessons.
✔ Admitting when we need help and support.
This was the hardest one for me. I thought asking for help meant I wasn't good enough. But actually, knowing when to reach out is a sign of strength and business intelligence.
You don't have to figure it all out alone. That's why communities, mentors, and support systems exist.
✔ Planning out long term goals with bite-sized doable short-term tasks so you can take it slow.
Big dreams are brilliant. They should be big! But they can also feel overwhelming if you're staring at the mountain peak from the bottom.
Break it down. What can you do today? This week? This month?
Taking it slow isn't the same as not moving forward. Progress is progress, no matter the pace.
✔ Bettering ourselves so we know our skills are reliable.
Keep learning. Keep growing. The more you invest in developing your skills, the more you'll trust yourself to deliver.
This doesn't mean chasing every qualification or course under the sun. It means being intentional about strengthening the areas that matter most to your business.
✔ Getting help from someone who has the skills.
Sometimes the smartest business decision is delegating to someone who's brilliant at what you're not.
Trying to do everything yourself is a fast track to burnout. Trust others with their expertise, just as you want others to trust you with yours.
